MASSIVE COMMERCIAL BUILDING FIRE on EMMET STREET in NEWARK



Tuesday, February 16, 2021, 6 a.m.


NEWARK, NJ - Firefighters were called to a report of a fire on Emmet street around 6 a.m., when they arrived they found a large commercial building fully involved in fire, and a second alarm was transmitted, as the fire continued to spread, and the units on scene were having trouble finding a good water source, a third alarm was sounded, about 90 Newark's firefighters were on scene battle the blaze. Mutual aid fire companies from several towns were dispatch to Newark to cover empty fire stations.

The blaze is under investigation by the Newark arson squad.


No injuries were reported.

Newark Firefighters Extinguish 3-Alarm Fire at Emmet Street


Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports that members of the Newark Fire Division have extinguished a 3-alarm fire at 221 Emmet Street today.


At approximately 5:37 a.m., firefighters responded to the vacant, 3-story, large commercial building and located extremely heavy fire upon arrival. A second alarm was sounded, followed by a third alarm, with some 90 firefighters responding.


The building sustained major fire damage with a total roof collapse.


A building at 219 Emmet Street was exposed to fire from the initial building and also sustained fire damage. No injuries have been reported.


The fire was considered under control at 10:13 a.m.


The cause and origin of this fire are under investigation by the Newark Fire Division’s Arson Unit.
